Bio

Denzel Hayes Washington was born in 1954 in Mount Vernon, New York. He was the middle child of the three children of a Pentecostal minister father and a beautician mother. After graduating from high school, Denzel enrolled at Fordham University intent on a career in journalism. However, he caught the acting bug while appearing in student drama productions and, upon graduation, he moved to San Francisco and enrolled at the American Conservatory Theater. He left A.C.T. after only one year to seek work as an actor. With his acting versatility and powerful sexual presence, he had no difficulty finding work in numerous television productions. He made his first big screen appearance in Carbon Copy (1981) with George Segal. Through the 1980s, he worked in both movies and television and was chosen for the plum role of "Dr. Chandler" in NBC's hit medical series St. Elsewhere (1982), a role that he would play for 6 years. In 1989, he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of "Tripp", the runaway slave in Edward Zwick's powerful historical masterpiece Glory (1989).

Through the 1990s, Denzel co-starred in such big budget productions as The Pelican Brief (1993); Philadelphia (1993); Crimson Tide (1995); Malcolm X (1992); The Preacher's Wife (1996) and Courage Under Fire (1996) - a role for which he was paid $10 million. In 2002, Washington became only the second Black man to win a Best Actor Academy Award for his riveting role as Det. Alonzo Harris in 2001's Training Day. He lives quietly in Los Angeles with his wife, Pauletta Washington, and their four children. Cerebral and meticulous in his film work, he made his debut as a director in 2002 with Antwone Fisher (2002).

To say"TVONE" and miss-opportunity in the same sentence is an understatement! "TVONE" schedule of old black demeaning sitcom and programs that in my opinion are just stupid. Martin Lawrence attempted is a good example of that STUPID! As a black American I'm offended that a TV station that claims to cater to a black audience miss opportunity to give it's audience better programming! Any time black Americans have a opportunity to shine light on Government corruption police brutality disrespect of human rights etc.. Where are the program that inform minority of what to do if they become a victim of Government corruption and police brutality! I don't agree with any channel that cater to a race. I prefer that when minorities are in the power of controlling programming it should help all community! It should include all races and it should never discriminate! Having said all that... I have a Proposal for a program: Our Laws and Just-US*****The program should have four host. A black a white and a Hispanic and other host. These people will evaluate program like COPS....All the court TV judge shows.... like Judge Judy,Judge Brown etc..The program would also follow current events of Government corruption police brutality etc.. The hosts would also adopt a law college to help look into inmates claiming innocent. The host would update the process of the college investigation of these cases! Our Law and Just-US" would also release the name of the officers and politicians that participates in corruption or abuse of power in current incidents! Bottom line "Our Law and Just-US" would shine a light on programs that are on TV and effect the rights of Americans! It will also give discussion to current and pass issues in the news. Like the Sean Bell incident etc...What happen how did it happen why did it happen...!

Denzel is fabolous! To me, he is the best male actor! Especially when playing in Malcolm X, Mo Better Blues, The Hurricane, Courage Under Fire, Training Day (scary), Remember the Titans and a Soldiers Story - just to name a few great films with Denzel. I also, loved the movie he directed: Antwone Fisher Story (Great - but, alittle dark). Denzel you are really one of the best in the business!!!

I admire Denzels dedication to his family, and his God, and church. When my son was 15, he walked slumped over. I told him to change his walk. I said find someone you admire and watch how they walk. The next thing, I knew, my son, had adapted Denzels walk. He suddenly gained good posture, and confidence! At 32, he still walks like Denzel, and is a confident young man!

It's incredible! He' s one of our greatest actors. He seems to be a devoted husband & father. A thoughtful artist, not just after the quick paycheck. He gives of himself, without expecting anything in return. I know when I see a Denzel movie, I'm going to be entertained. Oh, he's also fine. I live his swagger...

This brother is smooth. Even in the films where his character is questionable or even out of control. Denzel Washington is always in control. I would be honored to have his autograph.

Denzel Washington, is a good light to the Black/African-American community. A man that acts, but still know a time and place for everything. His commitment to God and family. It's not about his looks its his character that is recognizied-whats most important in his life first (God), before any thing else falls in place. His family is covered under the covenant and that's why he has been truly blessed! I never heard Denzel Washington of having participation in anything negative to the public eyes. He is Gods gift of a man....All the best for Denzels future endeavours. May him and his love ones continue to be showered with Gods blessings.
Blessings of overflow,

I caught the "Denzel Bug" when I saw him in the film "A Soldiers Story". I thought he was very handsome, especially when he was wet. (WOW) He looked familiar to me also. I spent a lot of time in Mount Vernon when I was a kid and he used to play ball and hag out with my cousins and when my family visited them I would always see him. He is most definately my favorite male actor Will Smith is second.

I have been a fan of Denzel's since his role as Dr. Chandler along with Alfre Woodward in St Elsewhere. In Glory as Tripp, when he was about to get WHIPPED, he toss his shirt from his shoulders falling down his back to his waist, turned his head to the side and let that ONE tear fall. Oh man, what emotion. Denzel to me is a Great Actor. Keep on keeping on Mr Washington!!!

I am a Denzel Washington fan because he can be so versitale in his characters, such as good guy or bad guy. I really love it when it plays the role of a person in charge. It seems as if that's his true personality.

I love Denzel because he's just perfection. His acting is superb; he always commits to a role, whatever role it is, whether it's a corrupt cop in "Training Day", or a desperate father willing to do anything to save his son's life in "John Q." He's a seasoned veteran in the acting game, and he only continues to get better and impress me with each passing year. Bottom line, Denzel Washington IS acting.

I' m a Denzel fan just because of the all around person that he is, He is loyal to his family, his fans and his neighbors (meaning whoever is around him) and have a need. I have seen Denzel and his wife (through tv) bless organizations and just give back to society without being the center of attention. Denzel is a proud black man with a strong black woman at his side and he loves her and his family. You never hear any scandal about Denzel cause he loves himself. Thats why I' m a Denzel fan. I also love every movie he's acting in. I could watch them all day long.

Denzel is a talented actor and director. But, there are other talented men in this business, so, the real question for me is: why I am such a fan of this man? It is because he is a talented Black man who goes home to a talented Black woman and they raise their blessed Black children together. I've seen pictures of the Washingtons together. It is heartwarming and encouraging to see a Black family together. So, while I wlll admit that I don't live in the Washington household. I will say that I love seeing Denzel and Pauletta together. And so that extremely talented, good-looking man will always be high on my list of favorite actors until...

DENZEL,WASHINGTON. IS THE SEXIEST,BOWLEGGED MAN,WITH THE VOICE OF NO-NONSENSE. THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN,IN MY LIFE. DAMN! IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN DENZEL. MY ,FAVORITE MOVIE OF MR.WASHINGTON IS (MO-BETTER BLUES.) THAT WAS TO MUCH SEXYNESS IN ONE FILM BY ONE MAN ALONE. MY FAVORITE PART IN THE MOVIE IS WHEN DENZEL,TAKES HIS INDEX AND MIDDLE FINGERS AND MASAGES HIS LIPS WHEN HE APPEARS PUZZLED. HEY YOU NEED TO RE-AIR THAT MOVIE , PLEASE. I, AM A DENZEL FAN BECAUSE (DENZEL IS DENZEL). COOKIE,FROM B-MORE.

Because Mr. Washington continues to grow as an artist, father, husband, and business man: Be it in front of the cameras or behind the lens, he reaches, he pushes himself as a person to continue to expand his skills, and his art. He has, I believe, grown as a complete human being. I'm a great fan of his work.
